Global infrastructure investment and capital mobilization
Overview
Global infrastructure investment activities have seen significant capital mobilization through various funds and platforms.
The National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (NIIF) reached a first close for its Infrastructure Fund II, raising approximately $2 billion, which is over 60 per cent of its $3.2 billion target. This fund, anchored by the Government of India, includes contributions from international backers such as the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, AustralianSuper, and Temasek, as well as several Indian financial institutions. The capital is intended for sectors including energy transition, digitalization, and transportation.
In a separate development, EIG raised $4 billion through its direct lending platform, driven by the $1.9 billion close of its Senior Infrastructure Debt Fund VI, which focuses on power generation and renewable energy in the United States and Europe. Additionally, the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) is creating a new platform to pool capital from institutional investors, such as insurers and pension funds, to address an estimated $700 billion annual infrastructure funding gap in Asia.
