Infrastructure maintenance resumes on key roads in Madagascar and Haiti

Infrastructure projects are underway in Madagascar and Haiti to address deteriorating road networks.

In Madagascar, the Boeny Regional Directorate of Public Works has resumed rehabilitation efforts on National Road 4 (RN4) between Berivotra and the Boanamary junction. Work had previously been suspended due to a shortage of base materials and tar, as well as technical constraints. Specifically, World Bank contract requirements prohibited the use of limestone, forcing technicians to source granite from the Betsiboka region and basaltic stones from Marovoay. Major works on this section are expected to be completed by late November.

In Haiti, the Ministry of Public Works, Transport and Communications (MTPTC) is conducting maintenance, drainage, and reshaping operations across several axes. Projects include cleaning and debris removal on National Road 2 (RN2) in Petit-Goâve, gutter installation on the Boutilliers road, and reshaping efforts in the North-East and Central regions. Despite these interventions, significant degradation persists on several major routes, including parts of National Road 1 (RN1) and various sections in the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince.
