Infrastructure projects advance in Zimbabwe and Malawi

Infrastructure projects are progressing in Zimbabwe and Malawi to improve regional connectivity and economic resilience.

In Zimbabwe, the government announced that rehabilitation work on the 440km Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Road is expected to accelerate. Following concerns raised in the Senate regarding a recent slowdown in construction, Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Felix Mhona confirmed that eight contractors, each responsible for approximately 51km, have resumed full-scale operations. The project is being executed under a public-private partnership (PPP) as part of the broader Beitbridge-Bulawayo-Victoria Falls corridor.

In Malawi, the rehabilitation of the Magomero turn-off to Namadzi River Road has been completed under Phase Two of the Regional Climate Resilience Programme (RCRP). Minister of Local Government Ben Phiri stated that the improved route will boost economic activity for local farmers near the Mbulumbudzi Market. The project is also expected to facilitate access to the historic grave site of explorer Dr. David Livingstone at Magomero. The upgrades aim to ensure rural infrastructure remains passable during extreme weather events associated with El Niño.
