Infrastructure projects in Argentina and Spain focus on climate resilience

In Argentina, the province of Santa Fe is entering the final stage of construction on the Garello Embankment to strengthen defensive systems against extreme weather. The project is currently over 85% complete. Officials noted that technical challenges arose because a water intake for ASSA, which supplies 40% of Santa Fe, was not relocated as originally planned. The project was redesigned to allow work on the final 30-meter stretch without affecting the water supply.

In Spain, the municipality of Paiporta has begun the demolition of the Pont Vell, a bridge that had served the community for nearly a century. The decision follows damage caused by a DANA weather event, which proved the structure had reached the end of its useful life. The Spanish government is overseeing the demolition to make way for a modern replacement designed with 45% greater hydraulic capacity to improve resilience against future extreme climate episodes.
