Turkey municipalities launch various infrastructure and disaster management projects
Municipalities across Turkey are implementing a wide range of infrastructure, urban development, and safety projects. In Balıkesir, a new Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM) has been opened to centralize crisis management, including risk reduction, response, and recovery efforts. The center will provide 24/7 coordination and utilize Geographic Information Systems to strengthen field response.
Transportation improvements are a major focus in several regions. In Sakarya, officials are calling for a clear timeline for the completion of the 43-meter North Bridge to alleviate traffic in the Yenikent area. In Oltu, construction has begun on the first two of six planned bridges over the Oltu River to improve connectivity between neighborhoods. Other regional projects include road widening and asphalt works in Şanlıurfa, Van, and Akşehir, as well as the completion of a connection road in Beyşehir, Konya.
Urban maintenance and utility upgrades are also underway. Mersin is conducting year-round pest control across 13 districts, while Sulakyurt has completed natural gas connections for TOKİ housing residents. In Eskişehir, new traffic marking and signaling projects aim to regulate parking and pedestrian safety. Additionally, İzmir is conducting microzonation studies in Konak and Bayraklı to assess soil stability and earthquake risks.
