Greece: Traffic closures in Patras and enhanced Athens tram service

In Patras, the intersection of Karaiskaki and Gerokostopoulou streets has been closed to all vehicles to facilitate urban development and the revitalization of the historic Lower Town. This closure follows previous traffic adjustments in the city center and is expected to increase travel times for commuters as the city returns to normal seasonal rhythms.

In Athens, a new enhanced tram schedule will take effect on September 7. The plan, supported by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport and STASY, aims to increase service frequency and reduce waiting times during peak hours.

Line 6 (Syntagma – Pikrodaphni) will see increased service, reducing morning wait times from 9 minutes to 7.5 minutes. Line 7 (Asklepieio Voulas – Akti Poseidonos) will also see improvements, with average wait times in certain sections dropping from 12 minutes to 9 minutes and 50 seconds. The total number of trams in operation will increase from 23 to 27, supported by the recruitment of new drivers.
