Infrastructure works and traffic disruptions in Greece

In Patras, extensive roadworks and urban redevelopment projects have caused significant traffic disruptions. The Patras Commercial and Import Association expressed concern that simultaneous works on major streets, such as Ermou, Karaiskaki, and Kolokotroni, have turned the city into a “vast construction site.” These disruptions, including closed intersections and traffic diversions, have created bottlenecks that impact local businesses, supply vehicle access, and consumer movement, particularly as the city prepares for the new school year.

Specific closures have been reported at the intersection of Karaiskaki and Gerokostopoulou streets as part of the redevelopment of the historic Lower Town, with traffic being diverted to Corinthos Street. Similar infrastructure-related traffic restrictions are also occurring in Trikala, where the ‘Asphalt Restorations 2026’ project involves repairs across 46 different road sections.

Recent developments in Patras confirm that the intersection of Karaiskaki and Gerokostopoulou streets remains closed to all vehicles to facilitate the revitalization of the historic Lower Town. This closure follows previous traffic adjustments and is expected to increase travel times for commuters as the city returns to normal seasonal rhythms.
