Turkish universities launch 2026-2027 academic year

Turkish universities have commenced the 2026-2027 academic year with various opening ceremonies. At Erzurum Technical University (ETÜ), Constitutional Court Member Recai Akyel delivered the inaugural lecture on “The Constitution, Constitutional Judiciary, and Individual Application.” ETÜ Rector Bülent Çakmak highlighted the role of artificial intelligence in reshaping education, while Erzurum Governor Aydın Baruş emphasized the importance of scientific production and technology development for national strength.

In Denizli, the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) President Erol Özvar spoke at the Pamukkale University opening ceremony. Özvar stated that universities should utilize their research capacity to support the “Terror-free Turkey” goal through academic studies and panels. He also noted that Turkey has risen to 15th place globally in publication counts and set a goal to place at least two Turkish universities among the world’s top 100.
