INPS announces September 2026 pension payments and tax adjustments

Italian pension payments for September 2026 are scheduled to begin on Tuesday, September 1. According to INPS, the monthly pension slips will include tax adjustments resulting from the 2026 Model 730 filings for those who designated INPS as their tax withholding agent.

These adjustments may result in either a refund of tax credits or deductions from the pension amount to cover tax debts. In August, approximately 4.5 million pensioners received tax credits, while 500,000 faced deductions. For those with tax debts, INPS noted that even if installment plans were requested, deductions must conclude by November.

Additionally, a 5% deduction will be applied to the July 2026 pension amount for retirees who failed to communicate their 2022 income details, provided their benefits depend on income status.

Poste Italiane has confirmed that payments will be available at post offices and via ATMs for holders of savings books, BancoPosta accounts, or Postepay Evolution cards. To avoid long wait times, postal services recommend visiting during late mornings or afternoons and prioritizing days following the first of the month.
