Inps launches Arianna, an AI-based digital assistant

The Italian National Social Security Institute (Inps) has introduced Arianna, a new digital assistant powered by artificial intelligence. Presented in Rome, the tool is designed to simplify interactions between the state and its citizens by using natural language to navigate complex welfare systems.

Inps President Gabriele Fava stated that the initiative aims to break the cycle of increasing welfare complexity that often excludes those most in need of protection. By using advanced technology to provide simple, verified responses, the system intends to reduce bureaucratic hurdles and allow human staff to focus on more intensive support needs.

Alessio Butti, Undersecretary for Innovation, described the tool as a key component of a broader government strategy toward an ‘agentic state’—an administration capable of recognizing needs and preventing errors. The goal is to shift the burden of understanding administrative language away from the citizen and toward the institution.
