INS Sudarshini reaches Lisbon for Lokayan 2026 maritime mission

The Indian Navy's sail training ship, INS Sudarshini, has arrived in Lisbon, Portugal, as part of its Lokayan 2026 transoceanic expedition. This visit marks the 15th port call during a seven-month voyage intended to showcase India's maritime heritage and strengthen international cooperation.

During the stay in Lisbon, the ship's crew and trainees will engage in professional exchanges, cross-deck visits, and cultural programs with Portuguese naval leadership, local authorities, and the Indian diaspora. The mission aims to foster mutual understanding and maritime partnership between the two nations.

The Lokayan 2026 expedition is a 10-month voyage covering over 22,000 nautical miles and visiting 18 ports across 13 countries. Beyond diplomatic outreach, the mission serves as intensive training for over 200 Indian Navy and Coast Guard trainees, providing practical experience in traditional seamanship and long-range ocean navigation.
