Inspectorate of Government resolves 1,011 Ombudsman cases in Uganda
The Inspectorate of Government (IG) in Uganda reported that administrative injustices accounted for 37 percent of all complaints investigated and concluded during the 2025/2026 financial year. These grievances, which largely originated from local governments, included delayed or unpaid salaries, pensions, and gratuities, as well as irregular recruitment processes and workplace victimisation.
Inspector General of Government, Lady Justice Aisha Naluzze Batala, noted that delays in accessing essential services—such as national identity cards, land titles, and passports—were also common. The IG resolved 1,011 Ombudsman cases during the period, leading to recommendations for the payment of Shs 2.35 billion to individuals denied rightful employment benefits.
The Inspectorate is using the upcoming International Ombuds Day on October 8 to encourage citizens to use the Ombudsman function as an alternative to costly and lengthy court processes. The office aims to address maladministration and abuse of authority to reduce corruption and improve public service delivery.
