Uganda Inspectorate of Government performance and support
Overview
The Inspectorate of Government (IG) in Uganda reported on its activities for the 2025/2026 financial year, noting that administrative injustices comprised 37 percent of investigated complaints. These grievances, often stemming from local governments, included issues such as unpaid salaries, irregular recruitment, and delays in accessing essential services like land titles and passports. The IG resolved 1,011 Ombudsman cases, resulting in recommendations for Shs 2.35 billion in payments to individuals denied employment benefits.
Following the presentation of the agency’s 55th Bi-Annual Performance Report, Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oboth Oboth pledged legislative and financial support to strengthen the watchdog. This includes commitments to fill 168 vacant staff positions, increase operational funding, and amend legislation to address evolving corruption tactics. The report for January–June 2026 indicated that investigations into financial impropriety led to recovery orders of approximately Shs 41.6 billion, with Shs 5.7 billion already recovered in cash and assets, alongside 26 convictions from 29 prosecuted cases.
