INSS announces September payments and R$ 230 million for fishermen
The Brazilian National Institute of Social Security (INSS) has announced several updates regarding benefits and payments. For the month of September 2026, the payment schedule begins on September 24 for those receiving up to the national minimum wage (R$ 1,621), with dates determined by the final digit of the benefit card. Beneficiaries receiving above the minimum wage will receive payments starting October 1.
In a separate disbursement, the INSS is releasing over R$ 230 million to approximately 37,000 artisanal fishermen as part of the 'seguro-defeso' benefit. These payments, authorized by Law No. 15,399, are scheduled between September 15 and 19.
Regarding credit, the margin for payroll-deductible loans (consignado) has returned to 45% of the benefit amount following the expiration of a provisional measure. However, the 10% portion reserved for credit cards remains blocked due to a precautionary measure by the Federal Court of Accounts (TCU) to prevent fraud and excessive debt.
Additionally, legal and administrative updates include guidance on correcting social security contributions that fall below the minimum wage and a judicial ruling mandating the INSS to pay retroactive death pensions to a beneficiary with a severe congenital disability.
