INSS updates BPC rules and launches task forces in Brazil
The Brazilian Social Security Institute (INSS) is implementing new measures and rules regarding the Continuous Provision Benefit (BPC), an assistance program providing one minimum wage to elderly citizens and people with disabilities in low-income households.
In the Grande ABC region, the INSS has scheduled special task forces to expedite social evaluations for BPC applicants. A total of 401 slots have been allocated, with sessions held in Santo André and São Bernardo to address the high monthly demand for disability and elderly assistance. These sessions aim to accelerate the analysis process for vulnerable families, including those with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
Additionally, the INSS has updated access regulations. New criteria include a strict income calculation where the monthly income per household member must not exceed 25% of the national minimum wage (R$ 405.25). To facilitate approvals, certain expenses such as essential medications, diapers, and health treatments not provided by the Unified Health System (SUS) can be deducted from the family income calculation. The agency has also mandated facial biometric validation for initial requests, renewals, and loan authorizations to prevent fraud.
