Insta360 launches 3D Spatial Capture using Gaussian Splatting

Insta360 has introduced a new Spatial Capture feature that uses 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) technology to convert 360-degree video into explorable 3D scenes. This process allows users to recreate real-world environments without specialized technical skills or complex software.

To use the feature, users record a video of up to two minutes while walking through a space, maintaining specific paths to capture sufficient viewpoints. The footage is then processed in the cloud, with results typically ready in approximately 40 minutes. The technology is compatible with Insta360 X6, X5, and X4 Air models.

While the feature is available in several countries, the rollout in the United States is scheduled for September 28, 2026. Users are advised to capture spaces smaller than 100 square meters for optimal results. The service includes a quota of four free captures per month, after which a credit-based system is required.
