Instituto Progresso to hold inaugural conference in Lisbon

The Instituto Progresso, a new think tank composed of progressives from the center to the left, will hold its inaugural conference this Saturday at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon. Presided over by PS deputy Miguel Costa Matos, the institute aims to serve as a “test tube” for public policies through field-based pilot experiments.

The conference theme, “An economy where life is better,” will feature a panel titled “Reforming the Country.” Speakers include former Bank of Portugal Governor Mário Centeno, former PSD parliamentary leader Paulo Mota Pinto, researcher Marina Costa Lobo, and Nabeiro Group executive Rita Nabeiro. The discussion seeks to combine diverse perspectives on economy and political institutions to address necessary reforms in Portugal.

Additionally, the event will include a dialogue between Clément Beaune, France’s Commissioner for Strategy and Planning, and former Minister Maria Manuel Leitão Marques, focusing on long-term institutional challenges in Europe. The institute will also present its first publication regarding artificial intelligence.
