Intensified Security Measures Deployed for India's Amarnath Yatra 2026

Kashmir police chief V K Birdi chaired a high‑level review meeting with senior officers from the police, army, CRPF, ITBP, BSF, SSB and other agencies to assess preparedness for the Amarnath Yatra starting July 3, as well as Muharram and the Kheer Bhawani Mela. The discussion focused on inter‑agency coordination, route security, crowd‑management, disaster response, communication and logistical arrangements to ensure a peaceful pilgrimage.

In Anantnag, SSP Amod Ashok Nagpure detailed a multi‑layered security grid that includes 140 CRPF companies, specialized units such as Markhor, Snow Leopards and the J&K Police Special Operations Group, division of the route into 19 zones, new control rooms, around 400 CCTV cameras with facial‑recognition, 28 watch‑towers and double sanitisation by the Army and CAPF. The National Security Guard and J&K SOG also completed the joint “Shakti Sangam” exercise, rehearsing hostage rescue, counter‑drone and anti‑terror operations to sharpen interoperability ahead of the pilgrimage.
