Intensive blood pressure treatment reduces cardiovascular risks

A large review of 27 randomized trials involving 88,830 adults has found that intensive blood pressure treatment effectively reduces serious heart and blood vessel problems. The study, published in JAMA Cardiology, compared intensive treatment against standard blood pressure lowering methods.

Researchers observed that for every 10-point reduction in systolic pressure, the risk of major cardiovascular events decreased by approximately 15%. These benefits were observed in participants both with and without chronic kidney disease. While intensive treatment was associated with a higher relative likelihood of sustained falls in estimated kidney filtration, the review did not detect a corresponding increase in actual kidney failure.

Dietary choices, such as consuming cucumbers, may also support blood pressure management due to their potassium and water content, though they cannot replace prescribed medical treatments or professional healthcare advice.
