Internal disputes emerge within Morena party in Michoacán and Tabasco
Internal friction is growing within the Morena party regarding candidate selection processes in the Mexican states of Michoacán and Tabasco.
In Michoacán, tensions have surfaced following a survey regarding political leadership. Reports indicate a disagreement between Raúl Morón and Carlos Torres Piña, who is identified as the purported winner of the survey. Torres Piña, a former PRD member who previously supported Silvano Aureoles and coordinated Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla’s campaign, currently serves as the Secretary of Government. The upcoming process to select candidates for federal and local deputies, municipal presidencies, and councilors across 113 municipalities is expected to be highly contested.
In Tabasco, controversy surrounds the candidacy for the municipal presidency of Macuspana. Allegations have been made regarding the potential imposition of José Antonio Rodríguez Subiaur, a state official and former driver for the Secretary of Government, José Ramiro ‘Pepín’ López Obrador. Local militants and legal professionals have raised concerns that Rodríguez Subiaur is being promoted through the party’s internal coordination structure despite opposition from other aspirants, citing potential political influence and threats.
