International Basque Pelota Federation moves headquarters to Buenos Aires
The International Federation of Basque Pelota (FIPV) has announced that its central headquarters will move from Pamplona, Spain, to Buenos Aires, Argentina. The decision was made during the annual General Assembly held in Argentina during the XX World Championships.
In a close vote of 43 to 40, Buenos Aires was selected over Biarritz, France, which had previously been announced as the likely successor. This move returns the federation to the location where it was originally founded in 1929. The FIPV cited economic and organizational reasons for leaving Pamplona, including a decrease in subsidies from the Pamplona City Council, the Government of Navarre, and the Higher Sports Council, as well as alleged political pressure.
Additionally, the assembly voted almost unanimously to re-elect Xavier Cazaubon as president. The French-Mexican leader will extend his mandate until 2030. The Spanish Pelota Federation (FEPelota) abstained from the voting process.
