International Coalition Commits to Civilian-Led Transition in Sudan

A coalition of the United States, the European Union, the African Union, the United Nations and other regional partners issued a joint statement on June 8, 2026, reaffirming its commitment to an inclusive, civilian‑led political transition in Sudan. The declaration follows high‑level consultations in Addis Ababa (June 3‑5) and builds on the Berlin Conference outcomes, calling for a comprehensive Sudanese dialogue to be concluded within six months and warning that "there can be no military solution to this crisis."

The statement also stresses the need for an immediate humanitarian truce, a permanent ceasefire and protection of civilians, warning that the international community will consider measures against anyone undermining the transition. The United Arab Emirates publicly welcomed the joint statement, echoing support for a peaceful, democratic path and the same humanitarian goals.
