International Coffee Day marks first UN-designated observance
The first observance of International Coffee Day, established by a United Nations resolution in March 2026, will take place on October 1. In response, various businesses and local establishments in Japan are launching special promotions.
Ezaki Glico Co., Ltd. is launching the ‘Coffee & Almond Effect’ campaign to highlight the compatibility of coffee and almond milk. The initiative includes an ‘Almond Milk Fair’ from October 1 to October 15, featuring original almond milk coffee drinks at 114 participating restaurants and cafes across Japan. Additionally, Glico will exhibit at the SCAJ2026 specialty coffee festival at Tokyo Big Sight, hosting sessions with prominent baristas to discuss plant-based milk trends and menu development.
In Higashiosaka, local coffee shops are also marking the occasion. Establishments such as Kamikochi Azusa Coffee, Tully's Coffee Kintetsu Fuse Station, and Tashiro Coffee are offering seasonal menus, including limited-time Halloween-themed drinks and specialty brews.
