International Criminal Court dismisses prosecutor Karim Khan
The International Criminal Court (ICC) has dismissed Chief Prosecutor Karim Khan following his pursuit of arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister regarding alleged actions in Gaza.
The dismissal follows an 18-month campaign involving significant political and media pressure. Allegations were raised suggesting Khan used the arrest warrants to cover up alleged sexual misconduct; however, investigations indicate the warrants were meticulously prepared six weeks before these accusations surfaced.
International pressure included warnings from UK officials regarding the withdrawal of funding and membership from the Rome Statute, as well as statements from US Republican senators. Israeli Ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, addressed the dismissal and issued warnings to political figures who characterize Israel's actions in legal terms.
