International fast-food brands expand presence in Romania

The fast-food and casual dining market in Romania is experiencing significant expansion with the entry and growth of several international brands.

Popeyes is continuing its expansion in the country, with plans to open its first restaurant in Galați in October 2026. The brand currently operates 24 locations in Romania, with a strong presence in Bucharest, Iași, Constanța, Cluj-Napoca, and Pitești. The expansion is managed by Rex Concepts, the franchise holder for Popeyes and Burger King in Romania, Poland, and the Czech Republic. Rex Concepts reported a 59% revenue increase in the Romanian market in 2025, reaching approximately 51.6 million euros.

Additionally, the Serbian fast-casual chain Burrito Madre, owned by Squadra Group, is entering the Romanian market. The company has announced its first location at Mega Mall in Bucharest, positioning itself as a competitor to Taco Bell by offering burritos, tacos, and quesadillas. This follows other recent international entries into the Romanian market, including Chili’s and Harry Ramsden’s.
