International film festivals celebrate filmmakers in Colombia and Mexico

The Cinemancia International Film Festival held its sixth edition in Medellín, Colombia, featuring 109 film screenings and various artist activities. A special program titled “La primavera llega para los que esperan” was dedicated to filmmaker and academic José Luis Torres Leiva, showcasing five short films and six feature films from his career. Torres Leiva, an academic at the Universidad Diego Portales, participated in a discussion regarding his creative process and recurring themes such as memory and the passage of time.

In another cinematic event, the 23rd Corto Creativo UDCI International Short Film Festival concluded its three-day run. Organized by the Universidad de las Californias Internacional, the festival awarded prizes to three productions. Esteban García Vega won the Best Short Film award for “No es el fin del mundo” in the Baja California category. Fabio Colonna received the national prize for “Un mes,” while the international award went to the French production “Como si la tierra se los hubiera tragado,” directed by Natalia León. Winners received 300,000 pesos and professional equipment to support future projects.
