International Fish Congress & Fish Expo Brasil highlights aquaculture innovation

The 8th edition of the International Fish Congress & Fish Expo Brasil (IFC Brasil) is currently taking place in Foz do Iguaçu, Paraná. The event serves as a major hub for the Latin American fish production chain, bringing together industry leaders, academia, and government officials to discuss innovation and sustainable development in aquaculture.

At the congress, PCI Gases presented oxygen self-generation solutions designed for fish farming and transport systems. The technology captures atmospheric air to provide compressed oxygen with over 90% purity. According to commercial consultant Fábio Andreis, the system can offer significant cost savings; in the Paraná region, the cost of generating oxygen on-site is estimated at approximately R$ 1 per cubic meter, compared to roughly R$ 13 for commercially purchased gas.

In addition to technological showcases, the event included political engagement. Brazil’s Minister of Fishing and Aquaculture, Edipo Araujo, participated in the opening and met with the Director-General of Itaipu Binacional, Ênio Verri, to discuss technical cooperation. The discussions highlight the growing importance of aquaculture in meeting global protein demand through sustainable practices.
