Brazilian fish industry events and promotions
Overview
In Brazil, various initiatives are being organized to support the fishing and aquaculture sectors. In Itajaí, the city opened restaurant registrations for the 2026 ‘Semana do Pescado’, a two-week promotion running from 1 to 15 September designed to boost fish consumption and strengthen the local supply chain.
The 8th International Fish Congress & Fish Expo Brasil (IFC Brasil) is currently taking place in Foz do Iguaçu, Paraná. Serving as a hub for the Latin American fish production chain, the event brings together industry leaders, academia, and government officials. Technological innovations were highlighted at the congress, such as oxygen self-generation solutions presented by PCI Gases. Commercial consultant Fábio Andreis noted that on-site oxygen generation in the Paraná region is estimated at approximately R$ 1 per cubic meter, compared to roughly R$ 13 for commercially purchased gas.
In conjunction with these developments, the Brazilian Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture (MPA) is conducting meetings in Foz do Iguaçu to strengthen the tilapia production chain. Minister Edipo Araujo has participated in the event's opening and met with Ênio Verri, the Brazilian Director-General of Itaipu Binacional, to discuss technical cooperation. The agenda also includes the Tilapia Festival – IFC and a workshop titled ‘Sustainable Development of Tilapiculture in the Itaipu Reservoir’, featuring participation from the Paraguayan Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development, Rolando de Barros Barreto.
