Brazil elections: International observers arrive to monitor voting

International delegations have arrived in Brazil to serve as independent observers for the 2026 general elections. More than 140 observers from seven organizations are monitoring the preparation, voting, and counting processes to evaluate electoral integrity, operational efficiency, and compliance with legal norms.

The participating organizations include the Organization of American States (OAS), the Mercosur Parliament (Parlasul), the European Union, the League of Arab States, the Roaje-CPLP network, the Inter-American Union of Electoral Organizations (Uniore), and the World Network of Electoral Justice (RMJE).

The OAS mission is the largest, comprising 91 observers from 23 countries, with coverage in 20 states and the Federal District. This mission is led by José Miguel Insulza, former Secretary General of the OAS. The Parlasul mission, led by Argentine parliamentarian Raul Bittel, arrived on September 29 and has emphasized its technical and non-interventionist character.

Observers will focus on various aspects, including electoral logistics, technology implementation, political financing, campaign dynamics, and digital communication. The missions aim to produce technical reports with recommendations to improve future electoral procedures.
