International Race of Champions returns for exhibitions in Washington and Laguna Seca

The International Race of Champions (IROC) series has been revived by Ray Evernham and Rob Kauffman, who acquired the brand and are re‑introducing the championship at two high‑profile U.S. events. The IROC lineup will race on authentic Pontiac Firebirds at the Freedom 250 Grand Prix street circuit around the National Mall in Washington, D.C., on August 22‑23, featuring former NASCAR Cup champions Jeff Gordon, Kurt Busch, Bobby Labonte, Rusty Wallace and Bill Elliott alongside IndyCar stars Tony Kanaan, Helio Castroneves and Dario Franchitti.

A parallel exhibition will be held at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca from August 12‑15 as part of the ‘26 Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, with drivers such as Jimmie Johnson, Dario Franchitti, Kurt Busch, Bobby Labonte, Danny Sullivan and Scott Pruett competing. Evernham said, “The Freedom 250 Grand Prix weekend represents a truly unique opportunity for motorsports and our country,” and added, “The response to the return of IROC has been incredible.” The events showcase the series’ original premise of equal‑spec racing to highlight driver skill across NASCAR, IndyCar and other disciplines.
