International Rural Women's Day marked by calls for empowerment in Haiti and Côte d'Ivoire
On the occasion of International Rural Women's Day, organizations in Haiti and Côte d'Ivoire have called for increased political and economic participation for women in rural areas.
In Haiti, the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP), in collaboration with the Ministry for Women's Affairs and Women's Rights, held a celebration in Port-Salut. Electoral counselor Yves Marie Édouard emphasized that democracy requires more than just voting; it necessitates the active presence of rural women in political structures, public administration, and national decision-making processes.
In Côte d'Ivoire, the NGO Alliance Côte d'Ivoire reaffirmed its commitment to the empowerment of rural women in the Méagui department. Representatives highlighted the vital role these women play in agricultural production and food security, while noting ongoing challenges regarding access to economic resources, training, and leadership roles. The organization is currently deploying an integrated nutrition project across 206 localities in the Nawa region to support local development and women's rights.
