International solidarity for Cuba grows amid US blockade

International solidarity efforts for Cuba are increasing in response to economic sanctions and blockades imposed by the United States. In Spain, the XVIII State Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba was held in Gijón, highlighting significant material aid. During 2026, 17 containers filled with food, medicine, and photovoltaic panels have already been dispatched. Over the past two years, 62 shipments valued at 4.43 million euros have been sent via air and sea, alongside 849,000 euros raised specifically for solar panels for health centers.

Across Europe, various demonstrations and solidarity events have taken place. These include marches in Bilbao, Spain; the ‘No War on Cuba’ vigil in Berlin, Germany; and expressions of support during the Fiesta de l’Humanité in France. In Belgium, solidarity was also noted during ManiFiesta in Ostend. Cuban officials have characterized these actions as evidence of international rejection of the United States' economic policies and energy restrictions affecting the Caribbean nation.
