Interpol fugitive arrested in Paraguay for 1999 homicide

A 65-year-old man, Antenor José, has been captured in Paraguay following an international operation. José was a fugitive wanted by Interpol via a red notice for a brutal homicide committed in Marechal Cândido Rondon, Brazil, in 1999.

The crime involved the strangulation and subsequent killing of Maria de Lourdes, an act motivated by the perpetrator's desire to conceal the paternity of a two-month-old infant. Intelligence sharing between the Paraguayan Police and the Brazilian Federal Police in Foz do Iguaçu led to his location at a rural property in the Mbaracayú district, Alto Paraná.

In addition to the Brazilian homicide warrant, José faces charges in Paraguay for sexual coercion and rape issued by the Caaguazú Prosecutor's Office. He remains in Paraguayan custody to undergo local judicial proceedings before the formal extradition process to Brazil begins.
