Interpol arrests 95 suspects in international child abuse material crackdown

Interpol has announced the arrest of 95 suspects following a series of four international police operations conducted between March and September 2026. The operations, which spanned 17 countries across Europe and Latin America, targeted the production and distribution of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) via digital platforms.

Law enforcement agencies executed 127 search warrants during the crackdown. Investigators noted that criminals increasingly utilize messaging applications and cryptocurrencies to coordinate abuses, contact victims, and monetize illegal content.

Specific regional findings include the rescue of a five-year-old child in Colombia and the arrest of a parent suspected of producing and selling material featuring the child. In Ecuador, authorities seized over 4,000 files totaling approximately 15 GB of illegal content. In Argentina, a suspect was apprehended for allegedly engaging in sexual extortion with more than 260 girls across multiple countries.

Stephen Fry, Interpol’s Executive Director for Investigation Support, emphasized the ongoing danger posed by digital platforms, stating that “behind every file is a child who has been abused and is victimized again every time that image circulates.”
