Sofía Herrera case: Family protests as Interpol alert for suspect expires
On the 18th anniversary of the disappearance of Sofía Herrera, her family is demanding a renewal of investigative efforts and the use of modern technology. The child was last seen in 2008 at the John Goodall campsite in Río Grande, Tierra del Fuego.
Amidst the anniversary, the family reported that the Interpol Red Notice for the primary suspect, José Dagoberto Díaz Águila, has expired. The notification was not renewed by Judge María Rosa Santana, leading to accusations of judicial neglect and abandonment of the case. While the expiration of the international alert does not mean the suspect has been cleared of involvement, it removes the active international search mandate.
María Elena Delgado, Sofía’s mother, has requested that authorities officially incorporate an updated facial projection of her daughter, created with the help of a U.S.-based NGO, to assist in the search. The family continues to advocate for the use of current technological resources and updated search protocols to find answers regarding Sofía’s whereabouts.
