Summer Walker faces dual legal battles with Interscope and LVRN
R&B artist Summer Walker is embroiled in two separate legal battles involving her recording and management contracts.
Interscope Records, a subsidiary of Universal Music Group, has filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles seeking over $50 million in damages. The label claims Walker has failed to fulfill her contractual obligation to deliver five studio albums, alleging she still owes two albums and an EP. This legal action follows Walker’s attempt to terminate her agreement by invoking California’s seven-year rule, which limits the duration of personal-service contracts.
Simultaneously, Walker has filed a lawsuit against Love Renaissance Records (LVRN), the independent label and management firm that originally signed her. Walker accuses LVRN of fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, and breach of contract. The complaint alleges that the label used oppressive terms to maintain excessive control over her career and misappropriated funds from her touring, recording, and merchandising budgets. Additionally, Walker claims LVRN withheld revenue from YouTube and Amazon merchandise sales and operated a YouTube channel in her name without authorization. Walker is seeking to have her contract with LVRN declared void and unenforceable.
