Intibucá strawberry producers modernize with L5 million investment

Strawberry producers in Intibucá, Honduras, are transitioning from open-field farming to protected cultivation through a L5 million investment. The initiative is funded jointly by the Secretariat of Agriculture and Livestock (SAG) and the farmers themselves.

The project covers 2.97 hectares and benefits 46 families by implementing protected structures, technical irrigation systems, and water reservoirs. In El Pelón de Ologosí, the Association of Strawberry Producers of Intibucá (APROFIL) received over L1.25 million to support 25 farmers with machinery and geomembrane reservoirs. Additionally, the Association of Strawberry Producers of El Carrizal (APROFRESAL) in Yamaranguila obtained approximately L902,881 for greenhouse plastics and high-quality strawberry stolons.

Further expansion is expected through the Integral Rural Development and Productivity Project (ProOccidente), which plans to allocate an additional L5 million toward hydroponic production to increase technological options for local farmers.
