Intuitive Surgical expands manufacturing with new Malaysia facility
Intuitive Surgical has signed a lease agreement with the Penang Development Corporation for a new manufacturing facility in Malaysia. Located in the Bandar Cassia Technology Park, the approximately 316,000-square-foot plant is scheduled to begin operations in 2028. The facility will focus on producing da Vinci surgical instruments and electromechanical components, with the company expecting to create around 1,200 high-skilled jobs by 2032.
This expansion follows a period of strong financial performance for the medical robotics pioneer. In the second quarter of 2026, the company reported quarterly revenue of $2.89 billion. Furthermore, free cash flow in the first half of 2026 rose to $1.8 billion, representing a 71 percent increase compared to the previous year. The company maintains significant liquidity, with cash and investments totaling $8.6 billion during the same period.
