Intuitive Surgical manufacturing expansion in Malaysia

Overview

Intuitive Surgical Inc. has announced plans to invest more than RM2 billion over the next five years to establish its first manufacturing facility in Malaysia and Southeast Asia. The 316,000-square-foot site, located at Bandar Cassia Technology Park in Penang, is scheduled to begin operations in 2028.

The facility will produce electromechanical devices and surgical instruments for the company’s da Vinci surgical system. This expansion is intended to strengthen the company’s global manufacturing network and serve the growing Asia-Pacific market. The project is expected to create approximately 1,200 highly skilled jobs by 2032.

Following the announcement, the company signed a lease agreement with the Penang Development Corporation. The expansion follows a period of strong financial performance for the medical robotics firm, which reported second-quarter 2026 revenue of $2.89 billion and a 71 percent year-over-year increase in free cash flow during the first half of 2026.
