Intuitive Surgical to invest RM2b in Penang manufacturing facility
Intuitive Surgical Inc is investing more than RM2 billion over the next five years to establish its first manufacturing facility in Malaysia and Southeast Asia. Located at Bandar Cassia Technology Park in Penang, the 316,000-square-foot site is scheduled to begin operations in 2028.
The facility will produce electromechanical devices and surgical instruments for the company’s da Vinci surgical system. This expansion aims to strengthen Intuitive’s global manufacturing network and bring production closer to the growing Asia-Pacific market. The project is expected to create 1,200 highly skilled jobs by 2032.
Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow stated that the investment reflects confidence in the state’s industrial ecosystem and supports Penang’s goal of becoming a leading medical technology hub in Southeast Asia.
