Portugal allocates European funds for regional health, water, and innovation projects

Various regional development programs in Portugal are deploying European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) resources to upgrade public infrastructure and services.

In the Alentejo region, the Alentejo 2030 program has made over 652,000 euros available to strengthen primary healthcare networks. This funding targets the acquisition of medical equipment and the improvement of healthcare infrastructure across the Alentejo Central, Alentejo Litoral, Baixo Alentejo, and Lezíria do Tejo communities. Additionally, a 400,000 euro call for proposals under the RIS3 framework aims to enhance institutional capacity and cooperation networks within the regional innovation system.

In the Médio Tejo region, Tejo Ambiente secured approximately 640,000 euros in EU funding to support a 1.2 million euro investment in Tomar. The project focuses on modernizing water supply and sanitation networks, specifically targeting new sewage drainage and water network extensions in Paialvo.

Other regional investments include 116,500 euros by the Alto Tâmega e Barroso Intermunicipal Community to improve public transport through digital information panels and new signage, following a 15% increase in passenger demand.
