Invalidovna in Prague begins major reconstruction project

The Invalidovna in Prague has held its final public tours before beginning a major multi-year reconstruction project. The event was marked by ceremonial rifle volleys and the laying of a wreath at the monument of Count Petr Strozzi, whose legacy funded the original 18th-century facility for war invalids.

Managed by the National Heritage Institute, the 2.15 billion CZK renovation is expected to last 36 months. The project aims to restore the historical site to its original splendor, including the removal of certain socialist-era additions and the installation of traditional wooden flooring. The reconstruction will also include new facilities for the Prague Philharmonic Choir.

Archaeological surveys have confirmed that the site historically served as a fortress. The site is scheduled to be handed over to contractors on August 31, with the renovated complex expected to welcome the public again in 2030.
