Overview

The Invalidovna complex in Prague is entering a major three-year reconstruction project managed by the National Heritage Institute. The renovation, valued at 2.15 billion CZK, is the largest investment in the history of the National Heritage Institute.

Prior to the start of construction, the site hosted final public openings featuring historical demonstrations by soldiers in period uniforms and guided tours of the historic interiors. Following these events, the reconstruction of the Baroque complex, originally designed by Kilián Ignác Dientzenhofer, has officially commenced.

The project involves the restoration of the historic building, the construction of two new buildings on the southern side of the complex, and the revitalization of the surrounding gardens and courtyards. One new structure will provide permanent facilities for the Prague Philharmonic Choir, which has lacked a dedicated home for over a decade, while the other will house technical infrastructure and a multi-purpose hall for concerts and conferences.

Inside the historic building, new exhibition spaces, a visitor center, a café, and multifunctional halls will be created. The National Heritage Institute will also establish restoration workshops, laboratories, and archives on-site. Upon completion, expected between late 2029 and 2030, approximately 80 percent of the complex will be accessible to the public, serving as a cultural and social center.
