Invalidovna reconstruction begins with CZK 2.15 billion investment

The reconstruction of the Invalidovna, a significant Baroque complex in Prague, has officially commenced. The project, valued at CZK 2.15 billion, represents the largest investment in the history of the National Heritage Institute (NPÚ).

The comprehensive renovation includes the restoration of the historic building designed by Kilián Ignác Dientzenhofer, the construction of two new buildings on the southern side of the complex, and the revitalization of the surrounding gardens and courtyards. One of the new structures will provide permanent facilities for the Prague Philharmonic Choir, which has lacked a dedicated home for over a decade. The other will house technical infrastructure and a multi-purpose hall for concerts and conferences.

Inside the historic building, new exhibition spaces, a visitor center, a café, and multifunctional halls will be created. The NPÚ will also establish restoration workshops, laboratories, and archives on-site. The project aims to preserve the unique cultural value of the monument while making approximately 80 percent of the complex accessible to the public. Work is expected to be completed by 2029, with the site scheduled to reopen to the public in 2030.
