Invasive mosquito species increase pest challenges in California and Texas

Residents in Southern California and Texas are reporting significant increases in mosquito activity, attributed in part to the explosion of invasive species over the last decade. In Los Angeles, ecologists note that new species are often diurnal, meaning they are active during the day, particularly at dawn and dusk, unlike the nocturnal mosquitoes that typically carry West Nile virus.

To combat these pests, consumers are increasingly turning to various chemical repellents, ultraviolet zappers, and automated systems. Thermacell has released an upgraded LIV 2.0 mosquito repellent system, which utilizes Wi-Fi-connected control hubs and multiple pesticide-emitting repellers to create a semi-permanent perimeter around protected areas like swimming pools.
