Two separate incidents of suspected femicide have drawn attention in Colombia and the United States.
In Ipiales, Colombia, 25-year-old Lisbeth del Rosario Fuelpaz was found dead in her home with signs of violence and wounds reportedly caused by a sharp object. Local community groups and the Casa de la Mujer are calling for a swift investigation to ensure justice and address concerns regarding the safety of women in the region. Fuelpaz leaves behind an eight-year-old son.
In Tucson, Arizona, 19-year-old University of Arizona student Julissa Rubi Salazar was found dead in her apartment with signs of strangulation. Police have identified her boyfriend, 20-year-old Varun Batchigari, as the primary suspect. Batchigari was apprehended in Germany while allegedly attempting to travel to India. U.S. authorities are currently working on his extradition to face first-degree murder and kidnapping charges. Investigations revealed that Salazar had expressed fear regarding Batchigari's violent behavior and had intended to end their relationship.
