Investigators pursue evidence in Italian ricin poisoning case

Investigators in Campobasso are continuing their technical analysis in the investigation into the deaths of Antonella Di Ielsi and her daughter, Sara Di Vita. The two women died between December 27 and 28 after ingesting ricin.

Specialists from the Central Operational Service are currently extracting and analyzing data from seized electronic devices. This work runs alongside scientific examinations of evidence collected from a residence in via Risorgimento and ongoing investigations in Germany.

A primary focus for authorities remains identifying the specific vector used to introduce the toxin into the home. While investigators appear to have a defined reconstruction of the events, determining how the poison was administered remains a decisive hurdle. Challenges persist regarding the disposal of food remains from a dinner on December 23, which are believed to be linked to the ingestion of the substance but have since been sent to a landfill.
