Ione Pinheiro becomes first woman on Minas Gerais Court of Accounts

The Assembleia Legislativa de Minas Gerais (ALMG) held an extraordinary plenary session on 15 March and unanimously elected state deputy Ione Pinheiro (União Brasil) as a councilor of the Tribunal de Contas do Estado de Minas Gerais (TCE‑MG). She received all 71 votes as the sole candidate, and the result will be forwarded to Governor Mateus Simões for formal appointment.

Pinheiro, now in her third legislative term, said, "Meu coração está transbordando de alegria," and dedicated the milestone to women’s representation, noting that her presence will strengthen democracy and combat historic gender bias. The election marks the first time a woman has been indicated by the Assembly to the state Court of Accounts, a body that oversees public spending in Minas Gerais.
