IOSFA and OSFA face debt crisis and potential layoffs
The Instituto de Obra Social de las Fuerzas Armadas (IOSFA) is facing a significant crisis involving massive debt and potential labor unrest. Following a restructuring, the Obra Social de las Fuerzas Armadas (OSFA) will assume medical care for personnel from the Army, Navy, and Air Force starting October 1.
The National Treasury and the Ministry of Defense have initiated a process to cancel a historical debt exceeding 200 billion pesos. To begin restoring services, OSFA has started paying a first batch of over 10,000 reimbursements totaling more than 5 billion pesos, following an auditing process to verify expenses.
Simultaneously, labor tensions are rising as approximately 600 contracts are set to expire on September 30. The union ATE has criticized the government for fencing off the IOSFA headquarters and warned of intensified measures if mass layoffs occur. This comes amid a change in administration, with Gonzalo Secchi succeeding Ariel Guzmán as the entity's administrator.
