Iowa and Minnesota face thunderstorms and heat

Weather patterns across Iowa and southern Minnesota are characterized by active storm cycles and fluctuating temperatures. In southern Minnesota and northern Iowa, showers and thunderstorms have moved through the region, with significant rainfall and flash flood warnings affecting counties such as Faribault, Emmet, and Palo Alto.

In Iowa, a cold front moving through a hot, humid air mass is expected to trigger organized rounds of thunderstorms. Central and eastern Iowa face the highest potential for severe weather and heavy rainfall. Before the front arrives, heat indices in central and southern Iowa may approach or exceed 100 degrees due to high humidity and temperatures in the 90s.

Following these active periods, a cold front is expected to bring a noticeable drop in temperatures and more stable, clearer conditions later in the week.
